Universe in a Box: LHC, Cosmology and Lattice Field Theory

24 - 28 August 2009

Venue: Lorentz Center@Oort

Lattice Field Theory counts by now a long history of successful applications, from high precision calculations of the QCD spectrum, to the thermodynamics and phase structure of QCD, Higgs physics, and hadronic matrix elements relevant for electroweak processes and CP violation.

This is the right time to exploit lattice field theory methods in their full generality and attempt the solution of less traditional problems, with direct impact on LHC physics and cosmology.

In this workshop lattice experts interested in these not-yet-standard applications get together to assess the state of the art in the field, interact with particle phenomenologists and model builders to enlighten those applications which held more promise, in view of the imminent production of LHC. Computer and algorithm experts will be involved in the workshop and play a key-role, to outline the computational complexity of these developments, and clarify further needs in terms of algorithms and computer resources.
