Two winners of the eScience Center - Lorentz Competition 2024

The proposals ‘Paradata in 3D Scholarship: Intellectual Transparency and Scholarly Argumentation in Digital Heritage' and ‘Enriching Digital Heritage with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Linked Open Data (LOD)' are the winners of the eScience Center - Lorentz Competition 2024.

Earlier this year, the Lorentz Center and the Netherlands eScience Center invited researchers to join the eScience Center - Lorentz Competition 2024 and apply for a cutting-edge workshop on Innovation in Digital Heritage Research. The workshop brings together researchers and experts from the academic community and the public/private sector.

The competition was very strong, so strong, in fact, that we wanted and succeeded in securing resources for two winners:

Paradata in 3D Scholarship: Intellectual Transparency and Scholarly Argumentation in Digital Heritage
Isto Huvila, Uppsala University, Sweden
Trilce Navarete, Erasmus University of Rotterdam, Netherlands
Costas Papadopoulos, Maastricht University, Netherlands
Vincent Rossi, The Smithsonian, US
Kira Zumkley, Victoria and Albert Museum, UK

and

Enriching Digital Heritage with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Linked Open Data (LOD)
Arno Bosse, The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), Netherlands
Rossana Damiano, University of Turin, Italy
Leif Isaksen, University of Exeter, UK
Gethin Rees, British Library, UK
Tariq Yousef, University of Southern Denmark, Denmark

Workshop with support
The winners will organize a Lorentz Center workshop (Snellius location), with a workshop budget of €15,000 for hotel, travel and lunch. In addition, they receive 460 hours of support from Research Software Engineers (RSEs) from the Netherlands eScience Center.
We look forward to hosting these intriguing and challenging workshops next year at the Lorentz Center.

The Lorentz Center and the Netherlands eScience Center thank all applicants who took the time to submit their proposals.
