During the last decade the need emerged for robust software for geometric problems in non-Euclidean spaces in numerous applied disciplines, like astronomy, material engineering, mechanics of granular materials. Other applications may be found in biomedical computing, solid-state chemistry, modeling of foams physics of condensed matter, and fluid dynamics.
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers with different areas of expertise to exchange knowledge on various aspects of geometric computing in a variety of different spaces. One particular class is formed by orbifolds, such as tori, cylinders, and other periodic spaces, and also projective space and surfaces of higher genus. The multidisciplinarity of the participants is an important aspect of the workshop. Participants come from areas like mathematics, computational geometry, software engineering, astronomy, molecular biology, physics, chemistry, fluid dynamics.
Topics addressed at the workshop include tesselations and tilings, point distributions, discrete differential geometry, computational topology, geometric inference, engineering geometric software, CGAL, and applications of these in various scientific fields.
This workshop comes forward from the OrbiCG initiative, which is a joint project between the INRIA project-team Geometrica (Sophia Antipolis) and researchers of the Astronomy and Mathematics & Computer Science Departments of the University of Groningen.
