The following physical systems have something in common: a turbulent plasma (as in the sun), the atmospheric flow, a bunch of people walking randomly in a closed room, bacteria confined in our body, colloidal particles inside a cell or DNA molecules inside the nucleoid. All of them involve a certain level of self-organization triggered or directed by physical confinement.
The aim of the workshop will be to set some common directions across the scales for research on self-organization under confinement: from molecular scales, dominated by Brownian motion, to geophysical scales, dominated by turbulence. We would like to bring together experts and approaches from different fields to expedite progress towards developing better fundamental understanding and further control of self-organizing systems under confinement.
