Photonics in Flatland: Empowering Nanophotonics with 2D Semiconductors

3 - 7 June 2024

Venue: Lorentz Center@Oort

If you are invited or already registered for this workshop, you have received login details by email.

The field of nanophotonics with 2D semiconductors in the visible-to-near-infrared spectral range represents an interdisciplinary crossroad where nanophotonics, 2D materials science, and solid-state (quantum) physics converge. This field has formed recently, building on concurrent developments in the broader fields of nanophotonics and 2D materials physics. This workshop aims to bridge the gap between nanophotonics and 2D semiconductors by establishing a focused community dedicated to advancing research in this flourishing area. By bringing together experts from various disciplines, the workshop seeks to facilitate collaborations and identify challenges to unlock the full potential of 2D semiconductors in photonic technologies.

The workshop will be structured around five main themes, each addressing specific research questions and opportunities in the field. Through interactive sessions, discussions, and collaborative activities, participants will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge, generate new ideas, and establish collaborations. Sessions and discussions will focus on the following challenges:

  1. Active/dynamic nano-optoelectronic devices.
  2. Heterostructure engineering and optoelectronics.
  3. Interfacing spin-valleytronics with nanophotonics.
  4. Quantum nanophotonics with 2D materials.
  5. Theoretical foundations and hybrid systems.

Practical notes:

  • Interaction will be central to the workshop activities with a focus on discussions. There will also be talks, poster sessions, and short poster pitches.
  • Due to the limited capacity of the workshop venue, the organizers may be unable to accept all contributions.
  • We have some spots available for this workshop via an Open Call. Applicants can register for this via the 'Register' button. Submissions will be evaluated on a rolling basis until seats are filled. Register your abstract before Thursday February 29 for full consideration. Final deadline to register will be Sunday 31 March
