NIRSPEC is the Near-Infra Red Spectrograph, which is being build by ESA for the JWST, the James Webb Space Telescope. The NIRSPEC science team supports the NIRSPEC project scientist, dr. P. Jakobsen, who works at Estec. The NIRSPEC science team meets 3 times per year in various locations.
It consists of astronomers from European countries, and specialists from Estec and Nasa. The meetings are usually attended by about 15 persons, and last 2 days. All aspects relevant to the NIRSPEC are discussed, including general JWST issues, science programs, etc.
It is expected that the telescope will be launched in 2013. The science team will keep working until after launch. The next meeting will be held on Feb 28 - Mar 1 in the Lorentz Center in Leiden.
