Looking Backwards to the Future: Studying the Future with Counterfactuals

11 - 15 February 2019

Venue: Lorentz Center@Snellius

If you are invited or already registered for this workshop, you have received login details by email.

The goal of this workshop is to explore the use of counterfactuality (sometimes referred to

as counterfactual history, allohistory, or uchronia) as a futuring technique. We aim to do so

by bringing together a diverse group of social scientists, humanities scholars, and designers

to share and evaluate current uses of counterfactuals across academic disciplines, and to

consider collaboratively a path for developing counterfactuality as a cross-disciplinary

futuring method. To provide the workshop with additional thematic coherence, we will

focus on the creation and communication of preferable sustainability futures.
