The 8-day programme (15-22 July) includes a series of seminars by renowned physicists, visits to research laboratories, and several social activities.

Bachelor students from all over the world in the last years of their studies come to Leiden to participate in a summer school filled with talks, lab tours and cultural events.

Topics

Participants get a unique peek into all the physics research carried out in Leiden. From quantum matter and optics, to biological & soft matter physics and cosmology.

  • Quantum matter: from black hole physics to superconductors
  • Cosmology and elementary particles
  • Quantum computation and communication
  • Physics of the living cell
  • Quantum transport in mesoscopic devices
  • Single molecule optics and electronics
  • Soft and active materials
  • Physics of metamaterials
  • Quantum microscopy

Laboratory Tours

The participants will have a chance to discover the latest research trends in modern physics by visiting Leiden’s state-of-the-art research facilities for quantum measurements, ultramicroscopy, nanofabrication, and the Cell Observatory.

Social Events

The program offers a wide range of social activities like a day at the beach, boat tour of the canals, a pub quiz, and exploring the historic city of Leiden.
