While narratives and scenarios were already used in The Limits to Growth report, their influence has grown in recent decades in response to the global climate crisis. Narratives and scenarios are now deemed indispensable instruments for imagining and bringing about more sustainable futures to ensure the continued survival of humanity on Earth.
But how exactly do we go from narratives and scenarios to actual climate action? How can we see scenarios and narratives as more than instruments, and use them in a sophisticated way for anticipating futures? Can we create a cross-disciplinary framework that formalizes the action-inspiring role of narratives and scenarios around climate change? The workshop focuses on these core challenges. It is specifically concerned with the “then what?” question: how do we go from narratives and scenarios to climate action?
