The Lorentz Center occupies the 3rd floor of the Oort building, a 5 floor slanted
building next to the Huygens laboratory, an 11 floor cube-like
building, situated in the
Bio-science park in Leiden.
For route planners and navigators use the address Niels Bohrweg 1 and/or postal code 2333 CA.
By air and/or train to Leiden station
The most convenient way to get to Leiden from Schiphol airport at Amsterdam
is to take the train to Leiden. The train station is in the middel of the "Schiphol Plaza" when you get through customs. Trains depart regularly (every 15 mins).
Take any train in the direction "Den Haag, Rotterdam", except an international train. The trip takes about 20 minutes. For a timetable of the trains click here.
It is easiest to buy your ticket at the ticket window in the arrivals hall, not in the machines in the hall. A one-way ticket costs about 6 euro.
From Leiden train station to the Lorentz Center
By taxi
Taxis are located on the front side of the station, to the left after exiting the station. This exit is in the direction of "Centrum Leiden; use the regular taxis rather
than the "trein/taxi". The cost to the laboratory is about 15 euro. Tell the
driver to go to the Huygens Laboratory, which is better known than the Oort
Building.
By foot
Leave the station at the exit marked "LUMC hospital". From there on it is about a 25 minute walk to the Lorentz Center; you might want to have
a copy of the map.
The simplest way to reach the Lorentz Center is along route 1.
By bus
For the bus station adjacent to Leiden train station, leave the train station by the exit marked for the town center.
You will see the bus station immediately at your right. Signs over the platforms indicate which bus route number will arrive next at any platform.
You may board bus nr 57 or 43.
These leave from the station half hourly and the trip takes about 5 - 10 minutes.
Make sure that you board the bus for the correct direction.
A system of prepaid units (called "strippenkaart") is in operation, whereby you buy a minimum of 15 units in advance.
These are available at the ticket offices of the train station. To cover the distance to the Lorentz Center will cost 2 units. The driver
will stamp the correct number of units when you enter the bus. You can also buy a one way ticket in the bus at a slightly higher price.
Bus no 57 for final destination Nieuw Vennep, via Lorentz Center
Get of at the stop called "Corpus" just before a sharp bend in the road to the right. The Oort
building is the grey slanted building in front of you.
Bus no 43 for final destination Den Haag Central Station, via Universiteitsterrein and Van der Valk Hotel Leiden
Get of at the stop "Universiteitsterrein".
Walk on along the Einstein road which passes the mushroom shaped building and continues
behind the Huygens laboratory. Turn right into the Niels Bohr weg. You will
already see the characteristic slanted Oort building behind the Huygens lab. The
entrance is at the other side of the building, in front of a large parkinglot.

By car
The Lorentz Center is located in the Oort building, right next to the
Huygens Laboratory, on the west side of Leiden, near the A 44 motorway.
See map.
When you are on the University campus, follow the signs for parking lot P1, which is right in front of the Oort building
Traveling on the A 44 (either from Amsterdam or from The Hague)
Get off at the Exit "Oegstgeest" and drive towards Leiden.
>From Amsterdam turn left to Leiden-Oegstgeest. From Den Haag turn
right.
Follow the main road till the roundabout (500 m), where you turn sharp
right (first exit on roundabout)
Follow the road "Rhijngeesterstraatweg", later called
"Endegeesterstraatweg".
Right after the road turns left, turn right into the parking lot in front
of the Oort building.
There is ample parking place.
Make sure you take the A 44, not the A 4 which also connects Amsterdam,
Leiden and The Hague, but runs along the other side of the city.
Traveling on the A 4, arriving from other directions See map.
Get on the A 4 direction Amsterdam and Leiden.
Take exit Zoeterwoude-Dorp and Leiden from A 4.
Leaving the highway, turn left on N 206 to
Leiden Voorschoten. Then continue to follow N 206 towards Leiden-Zuid and
Katwijk. When there is a Bastion Hotel at the left, N 206 turns right
(Leiden-Zuid, Katwijk).
After about 3 km, N 206 turns right (Amsterdam, Den Haag). Take this turn
right and take the right lane: At the sign Centrum Naturalis, turn right
and take the left lane.
Turn left at the sign Bio Science Park, you are now at the Einsteinweg.
Follow this road to a roundabout.
At the roundabout, turn right towards the Max Planck weg.
At the end of this road turn left. After 400 m turn left again (this is the
first left). You are now entering the parking lot in front of the Oort
building
