ABSTRACT: Blood vessel growth, or angiogenesis, is a crucial step during tumor development, wound healing and tissue engineering. A good understanding of blood vessel growth is essential to inhibit blood vessels during tumor growth, to stimulate their growth during wound healing, or to build them for tissue engineering applications. Computational models and simulations help unravel the basic mechanisms of angiogenesis and can help identify the steps in the mechanisms most amenable to intervention. In this talk I will introduce you to our models of angiogenesis, and explain why and how these models benefit experimental biologists.
